About Taste of Original

Taste of Original is a chinese restaurant in Sacramento, California. It is listed at 4940 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95822, which places it among the local businesses of Sacramento that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 10 am–9 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Taste of Original at (916) 942-9032; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Customers rate it 4.4 out of 5 on Google across 127 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded chinese restaurants in Sacramento.

Sacramento is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Sacramento follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

With my husband out of town for work and a craving for Chinese food, my dad and I came to Taste of Original. We were promptly seated and began pouring over the menu. We decided to try a little bit of everything and here is what we ordered: hot and sour soup, potstickers, spicy cucumbers, BBQ pork, BBQ pork fried rice, Mongolian beef, and honey walnut shrimp. The food came out fast and piping hot. Pretty soon our entire table was covered with dishes. We started with the hot and sour soup, which we both felt was lacking in the flavor department. It didn’t have that spicy tang that you look for when you order hot and sour soup. The potstickers were fried crispy, but the dough was a little too thick. The spicy cucumbers had no flavor to them at all. And the honey walnut shrimp was not memorable. We both felt that the two best dishes were the BBQ pork fried rice and the Mongolian beef. The beef was tender and had good flavor. The prices were extremely fair and the portions were large, but all in all this was not my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area.

Great location with great Cantonese food, straight out of Guangzhou taste. The taste is very homely and portions are good. Locals recommend it and I can see why. The rice rolls are done pretty well. Service is good too. The salty fish eggplant is one of the best ones out there

I came for the pork liver, and it definitely delivered—super tender. However, there’s a mistake on the menu: the Chinese “白灼腰润” is correct (“腰” = kidney, “润” = liver), but the English version lists it as “pork loin,” which is just regular pork. The beef with mushrooms was also very tender. The steamed rice is a bit like clay pot rice, but less oily and feels healthier. The only downside was an issue with order management—we didn’t get any food for about 30 minutes after ordering. Thankfully, the staff noticed and made a real effort to make it right.

Absolutely wonderful. This was our second time here. First time we got the beef clay pot rice and really loved the beef but thought the rice was a bit oily (though I know clay pot rice itself does need a lot of oil). This time we passed here on our way back from snowboarding at Tahoe. I got the beef rice noodles and my gosh, the brisket is chewy and the tendon just melts in the mouth, the flavor is just unbeatable in the US. The rice noodles are so light, healthy, and soothing for my stomach for dinner. We also got the pork steamed rice roll and beef congee, both of which are as authentic as possible. 没法形容,只能说对于留子来说吃完真的回国了❤️ I really hope the owner will open a store in the Bay Area!!! P.s.: the only complaint is that both times, the service is a bit slow, maybe because we don’t speak Cantonese but mandarin, but the food is well worth the wait.

Wanted to try everything on the menu however our stomachs were not up for the challenge. Went in during lunch time and it wasn’t too busy and we were quickly seated. Ordered something from pretty much each section of the menu and each dish had its own unique flavor. The standout for me has to be the green beans and the shrimp pumpkin salted egg dishes. However the other dishes were equally as wonderful. Great environment to dine in and very clean. Also, the waiters there were extremely sweet and welcoming which added on to the overall dining experience. Can’t wait to return to try other dishes off the menu, I’m pretty sure it will taste delicious!
